How long have you
been training at ABsolute Fitness?
I have been a member for approximately 3 months now.
What got you interested in fitness?
I have always had an interest in fitness but didn't have the confidence
to approach a trainer to help set me on the right path. This year I found I was
not feeling the way I should for my age. I would joke I felt like a 60 year old woman despite being early 40s. I was
uncomfortable, tired all the time, my self confidence was low and I didn't feel
I was setting a very good example for my children. The combination of all of
those things, pushed me to take the necessary steps, despite being out of my
comfort zone, to regain control of my health and wellness.
How do you find/make time to get your
Planning ahead helps. Knowing which times of the day are best for me to
get that hour in to get my workouts done. I have come to learn that my health
will always trump housework too! My housework can wait. If I have to leave
things a bit messy, so be it. I use the time I have to ensure I have time to
keep my focus on my health. My loved ones won't care if my "chores"
aren't done but they will care that I am healthy, happy and going to be around
for many years to come! I also continually remind myself that just like I will
make time for the people I love, I need to do the same for myself. No
What tip(s) would you offer someone who
is just starting out?
Stick with it. You won't regret it. Love yourself enough to know you are
worth the effort. The beginning is difficult. You'll be sore and may even
question if you can do it. Trust me, you can. Have faith in the process. That's
what it is. A process. As each week goes by you will get stronger and stronger.
You will see more and more progress. You won't feel as fatigued, your energy
will increase, you will see yourself doing things you didn't think you would
ever be able to do. lol. The more you stick with it, the more your confidence
in yourself builds. That in and of itself is amazing motivation. You will start
to see small changes in your body, how your clothes fit etc. I promise you, if
you stick with it, you will be SO glad you did!
What is your current workout routine?
I train with my personal trainer
Liliana. We get together 3 times a week for strength and resistance training. I
also do 20-30 minutes of the treadmill as a warm up, prior to these sessions.
On the days I am not training with Liliana, I do
moderate cardio. I aim for 30 minutes on the treadmill. Some days I get more. I
have recently also started adding some of the techniques Liliana has taught me,
at home on the weekend. Once a week I also meet with Liliana for 30 minutes as
she guides me through the treatment plan prescribed by ABsolute Fitness's Physiotherapist.
In your opinion, what is the biggest
benefit of exercising?
There is no possible way I could list solely one benefit. It is the
accumulation of multiple benefits that make it the biggest one. I feel more
energetic, I don't feel insecure in my own skin, I feel a sense of pride in
myself that has been missing for a long time now, my clothes feel so much
better, I am no longer lethargic and achy, my family notices how happy I am
which in turn affects them too in such positive ways. The physical and mental
changes that have taken place in only 3 months, are definitely the biggest
How has being a member at ABsolute
Fitness helped you on your fitness journey?
I was incredibly nervous joining a gym. I had wanted to for some
time but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I finally made up my mind to step
out of my comfort zone and just do it. Liliana, through the grapevine, heard I
wanted to join a gym. She reached out to me and it was a life changing message!
Her encouragement got me there. The environment at ABsolute Fitness is so
friendly. The members always offering a smile and some encouragement. The staff
are courteous and helpful. Their knowledge and expertise has helped make my
journey so far, a fairly easy transition.
Liliana instantly felt like a friend
I have known for years. Any and all anxiety I had, was quickly eliminated.
Their friendly environment and family feel, the continued encouragement, has
helped me to stay focused and positive about the entire process. I will forever
be thankful I stepped out of my comfort zone and joined.
