The cost is $2.00 per child per visit, or $15 monthly added to your membership fee (+ HST).

No childcare is available on holidays when the gym is open.

ABsolute AllStar, October 2017: Dennis Roberts

Each month at ABsolute Fitness, we highlight one of our members who has put extraordinary effort into his or her fitness to such a level that their energy is contagious and spreads to others throughout the gym.

How long have you been training at ABsolute Fitness?
I've been at ABsolute Fitness for almost 6 years.

What got you interested in fitness?
At the tender age of 16 my mother dragged me (not literally) kicking and screaming into the local gym. I was 5' and 175 lbs with a 38" waist. I truly LOVED my food and it showed. It was the best thing my mother ever did for me and I've never looked back!

How do you find/make time to get your workouts in?
Sometimes it can be a real juggling act as I tend to work fairly long hours. Either I get up at 5:45am and head to the gym, or I'll workout on my lunch hour. I find I'm most productive to work out before 2pm everyday, that's when I'm at my best. With how busy life gets, I strive to have an hour to myself everyday when I can work on bettering me.

What tip(s) would you offer someone who is just starting out?
Definitely go slow, have patience and work toward your goal. By lifting lighter weights and slowly increasing as time goes by, you'll have greater gains and less injuries. This is actually a good time to find a personal trainer who can guide you toward your goals. Everything in life is a building block and fitness is no different. Eat healthy, drink a lot of water and have a goal in mind. Like I said before, find an hour to an hour and half just for you everyday to be the very best you can be. And of course surround yourself with positive people and even find a gym partner whose goals align with yours.

What is your current workout routine?
Currently I work out 4-5 times a week (I strive for 5). I'm also extremely strict with my diet. I tend to avoid wheat, sugar, bad fats and limit my sodium. I also include at least 30 mins of cardio per workout day.

My workout is as follows:

Day 1 - Abs, cardio and chest

Day 2 - Legs and cardio

Day 3 - Rest day

Day 4 - Back, cardio and triceps

Day 5 - Shoulders, cardio and Biceps

Day 6 - Cardio

Day 7 - Rest day

In your opinion, what is the biggest benefit of exercising?
Definitely reduced stress and anxiety. Because life is a whirlwind of activity, stress can really creep up on you. The gym significantly reduces any anxiety I encounter. As an added benefit, it relaxes my mind, so that I can sleep peacefully.

How has being a member at ABsolute Fitness helped you on your fitness journey?
ABsolute has all the equipment I need to workout, which helps me achieve my goals. I love the people and the staff are friendly and sincere. The gym is always clean and you can 'feel' the positive energy when you walk through the doors. It's truly a great and welcoming environment. Honestly, ABsolute fits my groove and lifestyle. As a small town gym, ABsolute makes me feel like family.
